Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Abilene, Texas!
Frontier spirit remains at a full gallop in Abilene, combining cowboy heritage with amenities of a contemporary college town. About 150 miles west of Dallas - Fort Worth, Abilene once served as a trading center for buffalo skeletons, left behind by pioneers interested only in their hides, yet later sought by sugar and fertilizer producers. As buffalo ceased to roam, a new economy was forged as the military established nearby regional bases, the newest being Dyess Air Force Base, home of the 7th Bomb Wing. Abilene attractions range from the ghostly ruins of Fort Phantom Hill, an 1851 Army post, to Frontier Texas, also home to the Abilene Forts Trail and Visitors Center, to Buffalo Gap Historic Village, the Center for Contemporary Arts, and the Abilene Zoo. Natural attractions include Abilene State Park's prairie land, forests and streams. Abilene accommodations range from well-known national hotel and motel brands to independently owned inns, ranch guest houses, and B&Bs.
